DaisyDisk is the reference point for this whole category on the Mac. It has been shipping since 2010, it is beautifully made, and its sunburst view is the reason a lot of people know what a disk analyzer is at all. If you have used exactly one of these tools, it was probably this one.

The core difference is scope. DaisyDisk is deliberately a *visualiser*: it maps the disk, lets you drag items to a collection, and deletes them. It does not try to be a cleaner. Dropit is a visualiser and a cleaner — eight views rather than one, plus a Quick Wins catalogue, a duplicate finder, an app uninstaller that chases leftovers, and a safety assessment with a plain-English reason attached to every item before it can be staged.

The second difference is the free tier. DaisyDisk offers a time-limited trial. Scanning, every view and the inspector are permanently free here; you pay only for the half that deletes things. Both are honest models — one lets you evaluate everything for a while, the other lets you keep the diagnostic part forever.

If you want one clear sentence: DaisyDisk is the better-established tool with the more famous single view; this is the broader one, with the deletion safety work and the developer-specific cleanup that we needed and could not find.

DaisyDisk 的優勢

  • Fifteen years of shipping. It is stable, it is known, and thousands of people have already trusted it with their drives. We are new, and no amount of engineering substitutes for that.
  • The sunburst view is the best-executed single visualisation on the platform, and the interaction design around drilling into it is genuinely excellent.
  • It is on the Mac App Store, which means Apple-sandboxed distribution, family sharing and a purchase tied to your Apple account.
  • It is smaller and simpler. If all you want is "show me the big folders and let me drag them out", the extra surface area here is cost, not benefit.

Choose DaisyDisk if you want the established, App Store option, if the sunburst is the view you think in, or if you only need to find and remove a few large items.

  • Eight views instead of one — treemap, sunburst, flame graph, bubbles, folder cards, top sizes, age map and mind map — because different questions have different right pictures.
  • A permanently free scan tier, with no time limit on the diagnostic half.
  • A safety assessment with a plain-English reason on every item before it can be staged for deletion.
  • Duplicate finding, app uninstall with leftover sweeping, and a developer-aware cleanup catalogue (DerivedData, simulator runtimes, node_modules, package caches).
  • An "age map" that surfaces large files you have not touched in a year, which is a different question from "what is large".

Choose Dropit if you want more than one way to look at the same drive, if you want the cleanup work — caches, duplicates, uninstalls, developer artifacts — handled with an explicit safety rationale, or if you want to keep a free disk analyzer permanently.

常見問題

  • Is DaisyDisk still the best Mac disk space analyzer?

It is the most established, and its sunburst view is excellent. Whether it is the best for you depends on whether you want a pure visualiser or a tool that also handles cleanup, duplicates and uninstalls.

  • Does DaisyDisk find duplicate files?

No. It is designed as a disk visualiser rather than a cleaner, and duplicate detection is not part of it as of September 2026.

  • Can I use Dropit for free?

Yes, permanently. Scanning any drive, all eight views and the inspector are free with no time limit. Payment unlocks cleanup, duplicates, uninstall, snapshots and monitor.
