# Dropit

> See where your Mac's space went. Then take it back. Dropit is a disk space analyzer and cleaner for macOS. It scans a drive, draws what is on it eight different ways, and helps remove what is safe to remove. Scanning is free and requires no account; the cleanup half is a one-time purchase.

Dropit for Mac is a native desktop application, not a web service. It is new in 2026. Comparable tools are DaisyDisk, DiskBuddy, CleanMyMac, GrandPerspective and OmniDiskSweeper.

## What it does

- Scans a folder, a volume, or a whole Mac and builds a size-ranked tree of every file and folder.
- Shows that tree in eight interactive views: folder cards, treemap, sunburst, flame graph, bubble pack, mind map, top sizes, and an age map of when files were last touched.
- Inspects any item: size on disk versus logical size, APFS compression, file and folder counts, share of the parent, largest items inside, and modification dates.
- Finds duplicate files by content hash, grouped by wasted bytes.
- Lists installed applications with the size of the support files each one has left in ~/Library, and uninstalls an app together with those leftovers.
- Offers a catalogue of "quick wins": caches, logs, browser caches, Xcode DerivedData, iOS simulator runtimes, node_modules and other build directories, package-manager caches, Docker disk usage, the Trash, and large untouched media.
- Attaches a safety tier and a written plain-English reason to every item before it can be staged for deletion.
- Saves a scan and compares it against a later one, to show what grew.
- Shows live CPU, memory, network and disk activity.

## What is free and what is paid

Free, permanently, with no account and no time limit: scanning any drive, all eight views, the inspector, search, Reveal in Finder, Quick Look, and Copy Path.

Paid, once: executing a cleanup, the duplicate finder, application uninstall, saved snapshots, and the live monitor. One purchase covers two Macs at a time, deactivatable and reassignable.

## Pricing

One-time purchase, US dollars, no subscription. The price rises in published steps as copies sell: $3.50 for copies 1–100, then $7 for copies 101–300, then $11.50 for copies 301–600, then $16 for copy 601 onwards, permanently. ## Requirements

- macOS 14 or later.
- Universal binary: Apple silicon and Intel.
- Signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple.
- Full Disk Access is optional. Without it the app scans normally and reports how many folders macOS hid from it.

## Privacy

The app sends no file names, paths, contents or scan results anywhere. There is no analytics or telemetry in the app. The only network traffic is licence validation, which transmits the Mac's name, model, macOS version, app version and an anonymous device token, and the update check.
